Sometimes I don't like snow.....

Can you see  our civic sign down at the end of our driveway and to the right? The storm that wasn't supposed to reach us on January 12th was bearing down as nightfall approached. Hubs had gone out to clear the driveway in an effort to stay ahead of what the county's snow plough pushes across the driveway's entrance. There was maybe a foot and a half of snow to clear at about 10 pm that evening. The snow ploughs were to call it a night until 5 am or whatever early hour before the morning's work commute. It was anybody's guess as to what we would wake up to after the ploughs had their way with our driveway.

The side of the house reminds me of that nasty 70's popcorn ceiling. You know, that stuff they sprayed on the ceilings that's a nightmare to remove? The only time I ever took a liking to it was when I was living in an apt. where they added glitter. I was 18 years old. I thought that anything that sparkled was pretty.

OK, I wasn't overly excited to get out and take photos of all the snow dumped at the end of the driveway upon waking in the aftermath of the storm. I couldn't tell you how much snow actually fell, but I can tell you that much of what was in the farmland northeast of us made it's way through our property and across our driveway. The civic sign is buried now. I was tempted to take a shot of hubs out with the snow plough but declined. I'll just tell you that it was mid-thigh to hip deep. We've learned it's always best to blow the snow to the west (to the right as you're seeing the photo).

The neighbours across the street might see a couple of feet. The plough goes by on their side and a bit of clumpy snow gets left behind. No big deal for them. I do take some comfort in the fact that our neighbours to the west of us get some of what we get. We do like to share the motherload, after all.

  1. Wow that's a lot of snow. And double wow on the picture of the house. Is it snow or ice? Either way that's wild to see it on the house like that.
And I love anything that sparkles. If I thought I could get away with it I'd have a sparkly ceiling. I think hubs would veto the idea though, he's not much into sparkles. Go figure eh.
We are supposed to get 5 to 10 cm of snow tomorrow. So far this year we haven't had as much as usual. Two years ago we had more than we could handle. I guess it balances out in the end.
Do the dogs like the snow? My kitties go outside but they usually want back in 5 minutes later. One, Xena, will scratch on the living room window to tell us she wants to come in.
    Hugs

  2. Johanna, that's snow. The temps were mild so had it not been so windy, it would have been pretty fluffy flakes. I can handle that but it's the wind.

Parts of PEI seem to be having a better winter than us. That's not to say the tides won't turn. This has been an odd fall and winter thus far but I'm not going to complain. It's not been all that cold.

  3. What direction does the side of your house face? That's some wild weather! I've been told my house in PEI has lost one shingle which isn't too bad - they've had storm after storm the last couple of months (north-west side).
Here in London it's been pretty calm thankfully. Really hoping the worst of winter has come and gone.

  4. If you're looking down my driveway (from the comforts of my living room) you are looking south. The storm was a nor'easter so wind was blowing both down and across our driveway.

Regarding the photo, the side of the house with all that snow sticking to it is the west side. The wind was coming from the opposite side (east) but swirling about. As it was mild temps and wet snow, it stuck to the house. Same thing with the front porch which is facing south.

  5. That was quite the snow storm! The front of the house does look like one of those ceilings from the 1970's. Stay warm and enjoy your weekend! Jennifer

  6. Oh Michelle! These pictures remind me of our winters in PEI. I'm hope you are spared the storm that should hit this evening. We had snow and now rain, but the winter this year here is pretty mild. Stay warm! Susan :)
